Filmmakers

Lukas Stepanik is an Austrian director-writer, who has made twenty films (documentaries, feature films, TV-series), and co-produced many more. His feature film Gebirtig (2002)—about Holocaust survivor Hermann Gebirtig, who emigrated to New York after WWII, where he enjoyed a successful career as a composer of musicals and hit songs—was the Austrian nominee for the Oscars in 2003. Austria-born Bernadette Wegenstein teaches media history and theory at the Johns Hopkins University, and has directed and produced the documentary Made Over in America (Icarusfilms, 2007), exploring the culture of extreme makeover shows. http://madeoverinamerica.com. Baltimore-based Allen Moore is an independent filmmaker, producing,
directing, photographing, and editing his own 16mm documentary work. He has
worked as a director of photography for several of Ken Burns historical
films shown on PBS, including the multi-part series The Civil War and
Baseball, the two-part series, Thomas Jefferson, as well as Lewis and
Clark, Mark Twain, and Horatios Drive. Moore's cinematography for The Civil
War and, most recently, The National Parks: America's Best Idea, captured a
national audience. He is a professor at Maryland Institute College of Art in
the Video and Film Arts Department.
Garrett Guidera is a former student of Allen Moore’s, he is a Baltimore native who now lives in Los Angeles. He works as independent cinematographer, editor and visual effects artist, as well as a music video director. His documentary work has spanned from shooting independently for short and long form documentaries. Most notably he has documented the success of KIPP charter schools both locally and nationally.Photographer:
Lisa Shifren has been taking photographs since the age of 12. She majored in
Imaging and Digital Art at the University of Maryland, and has also studied
photography at the Maryland Institute College of Art. In addition to being a
photographer and digital artist, Lisa works as a Jewish communal
professional at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore with
seniors and holocaust survivors, who are the subjects of her recent body of

Danielle Hendrix is a native Baltimorean and senior undergraduate Film and Media Studies major at Johns Hopkins University.
Jordan Litner is an Economics major at Johns Hopkins University from New Jersey and a former student of Bernadette's. His experiences in the professional marketing industry and enthusiasm for community relations has made it an easy transition to being a production assistant. Wien-Baltimore is Jordan's first (and hopefully not last) documentary with which he has been involved.
Leah Robertson is is a Cincinnati-born History and Latin American Studies major at The Johns Hopkins University. Her grandparents were German Jews who fled to Baltimore during Hitler's reign. She is currently involved in educational outreach programs on campus, and after earning her BA, she intends to pursue a career in education policy and research.
Elise Rouméas is completing a master’s degree in political theory at the Sciences Po Doctoral School in Paris. In 2008 she studied at The Johns Hopkins University, which gave her the opportunity to explore the cinematographic representation of the Holocaust, as part of Professor Wegenstein’s course Holocaust & Film.
Valentina Cancelli is an Austrian artist and curator with international producing experience.
She studied art history and is currently working on an artist residency program in Lecce. She lives and works
in Vienna and Southern Italy.
